The care nurses provide can have a big impact on our lives. On our worst, most stressful days, they ease our pain, calm our fears and explain our treatment. Nurses offer a caring heart and guiding hand as we navigate our wellness journey.

Nurses Day and Nurses Week provide the perfect opportunities to celebrate nurses who care for us, our friends, our families and our communities. They do important work and we can make them feel valued by expressing our appreciation.

A Brief History Lesson: Nurses Week

But first, a quick history lesson. In 1982, a congressional resolution designated May 6 as National Recognition Day for Nurses. A few years later, in 1990, the American Nurse Association expanded the recognition to create National Nurses Week, which takes place annually May 6–12. For Nurses Week 2023, show your appreciation to carry on this tradition.

Just as we must acknowledge that patients suffer, we must acknowledge that the work caregivers do is complex, important and both physically and emotionally challenging. Simply acknowledging efforts and praising good outcomes in a genuine and unscripted way is meaningful.

Nurses as Employees

Although the holiday is a long-standing tradition, we still struggle to put into words just how much nurses mean to us. And for those who work in the healthcare industry, nurses aren’t just people you see every so often; they’re at the heart of your health care organization.

Here at Hallmark Business Connections, we create custom greeting cards, including a collection of gratitude-filled Nurses Week greeting cards, to help hospital systems, medical offices and other organizations celebrate nursing staff May 6–12, 2023.

To make your nurse appreciation message stand out, we recommend saying it with a card. Show how much you care by adding a note and the familiar gold seal of a Hallmark card to close your envelopes. These personal touches go a long way toward making your recipient feel valued.
